I want to point some attention towards a somewhat niche topic in Alfredo Sena’s status pending the upcoming CBA negotiation. Sena has the looks of one of the top international free agents we’ve seen in recent years and has a pre-agreement with the Braves. Unfortunately for Atlanta, the CBA is being re-negotiated, which may result in this upcoming IFA signing period being cancelled in favor of a newly imposed draft, depending on negotiations. I’m generally not a fan of allocating large sums of IFA bonus pool towards one player, based on some research I did a while back, but there is a case to be made that scouting and player development has improved since the data I used in the piece was useful and Sena may be enough of an outlier to be an exception. A persuasive argument could be made to continue this signing period as is regardless of the outcome of CBA negotiations, just due to the timing of it all, but this is a fairly high-stakes issue for Braves fans to watch as it pertains to the CBA negotiations (aside from, you know, the status of the 2027 season on the whole and the future financial foundation of the sport).
