The Golden State Warriors could be preparing to move on from Kristaps Porzingis before the former NBA All-Star ever establishes himself as a consistent contributor for the franchise.
Golden State has begun exploring potential trades involving Porzingis, who is reportedly considering his future in professional basketball because of ongoing health concerns, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
The 7-foot-2 center continues to experience recurring symptoms associated with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, commonly known as POTS.
The development raises significant questions about Porzingis' basketball future and Golden State's plans as the Warriors prepare to begin the 2026-27 NBA season.
Porzingis joined Golden State in a February trade before agreeing to a two-year, $40 million contract during the offseason.
The Warriors hoped the former All-Star could provide additional scoring, outside shooting and rim protection alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
However, recurring health issues have prevented Porzingis from becoming the consistent presence Golden State envisioned.
He remained away from the team throughout the preseason, leaving head coach Steve Kerr uncertain about when he might return.
Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy recently acknowledged the challenges created by Porzingis' absence.
"I really don't have a timeframe on it," Dunleavy said during an appearance on "The TK Show."
The uncertainty has forced Golden State to reconsider its frontcourt rotation, with Green and veteran center Al Horford expected to handle significant responsibilities.
Porzingis' situation also comes at a difficult time for a Warriors organization attempting to maximize the remaining years of Curry's career.
Golden State finished last season with a 37-45 record and enters the new campaign looking to return to playoff contention.

Although the Warriors have reportedly started examining trade possibilities, there is no indication that a deal is imminent or that Porzingis has made a final decision about his playing career.
His health remains the more pressing concern as the franchise evaluates its options.
Golden State opened its regular season Wednesday with a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, and Porzingis' continued absence could make it even more difficult for the Warriors to find their footing.
The reported trade discussions only add to the uncertainty surrounding Golden State's frontcourt. But for Porzingis, the biggest question is no longer simply where he might play next. It's whether his ongoing health challenges will allow him to return to the NBA at all.
