The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has paid glowing tribute to the late elder statesman and national leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who passed away at the age of 100.
In a statement issued by his director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, Wednesday, the monarch described the centenarian’s death as a profound loss to both the Yoruba race and Nigeria at large.
He noted that Pa Fasoranti’s life was defined by dedicated service, immense wisdom, unblemished integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the advancement of his people.
Ooni Ogunwusi stated that the late Afenifere leader belonged to a revered generation of patriots whose foundational contributions to Nigeria’s political development, the preservation of Yoruba identity, and the relentless struggle for democratic governance remain indelible in the nation’s history.
“Pa Fasoranti’s commitment to justice, good governance, equity, and the welfare of the Yoruba people reflected the enduring values of responsible leadership and service to humanity,” the Ooni said.
The monarch further observed that Pa Fasoranti’s influence stretched far beyond his leadership of Afenifere. Decades of impactful public service and active political engagement established him as a trusted, authoritative voice on matters concerning the future and unity of both Yorubaland and Nigeria.
Highlighting the lessons embedded in the statesman’s life, the Ooni emphasized that Pa Fasoranti’s legacy offers a masterclass in patriotism, perseverance, and the fundamental duty of leaders to prioritize collective interests.
He added that his remarkable footprint will continue to inspire younger generations to embrace integrity, peaceful coexistence, and community development.
