FC Seoul lifted the K League 1 trophy at home, returning to the top of the South Korean top flight for the first time in a decade after second-place Ulsan HD failed to win on the same day.
Seoul drew 1-1 with Gangwon FC in the 33rd round of K League 1 at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 24th.
Seoul, on 67 points from 20 wins, seven draws and six losses, secured the title regardless of the final round after Ulsan, on 50 points, drew 2-2 with Pohang Steelers at the same time. It is the club's seventh league championship, including its years as Anyang LG, and its first since 2016.
Gangwon controlled the early stages. Pressing hard, the visitors forced Seoul back, and in the 36th minute Seoul goalkeeper Koo Sung-yun stopped a shot from Choi Byung-chan. Koo also saved a long-range effort from Kim Dae-won in the 44th minute.
Gangwon won a clear chance to score in first-half stoppage time. After an on-field review, a penalty was awarded when Kim Jin-su was found to have pulled back Seo Min-woo as he charged toward the ball. But Koo saved Kim Dae-won's spot kick and then cleared a follow-up attempt on the second ball to keep the score level.
Seoul finally broke through in the 58th minute. Anderson intercepted a pass and found Moon Seon-min, whose right-footed shot from outside the penalty area found the left corner of the net. Seoul players celebrated by miming the lifting of the championship trophy, sending the crowd of 30,022 into raptures.
Gangwon refused to back down. Seven minutes after conceding, Kang Jun-hyuk collected a pass from Kim Dae-won and poked the ball between the goalkeeper's legs to level the match. It was Kang's first professional goal.
Seoul pressed again in the 84th minute, when Klimala met two dangerous headers, but both were kept out by the goalkeeper, and the match ended 1-1.
