Football, solidarity and screening awareness take centre stage in Kuwait
French Embassy, ARGAN Bedaya, and PSG Academy join forces to promote breast cancer awareness, bring message of early detection
Women and girls of different ages and backgrounds took to the football field on Wednesday as the Embassy of France in Kuwait, ARGAN Bedaya and Paris Saint-Germain Academy Kuwait joined forces for “Play in Pink,” an initiative highlighting breast cancer awareness and the importance of screening.
Held on October 21 in support of Pink October, the annual international campaign was dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer screening and supporting medical research. The event featured a series of friendly football matches designed to bring participants together through sport and promote a message of solidarity.
The event was held in the presence of Sayeh Gauvin, wife of the French Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Olivier Gauvin. It offered an inclusive setting for women and girls from diverse backgrounds to connect through football while drawing attention to the importance of breast cancer screening awareness.
The initiative received the full support of Ambassador Gauvin and reflected the French Embassy’s commitment to health and gender equality. It also aligned with France’s International Strategy for a Feminist Foreign Policy 2025–2030, which places the rights of women and girls at the centre of French foreign policy, including in healthcare.
Through “Play in Pink,” the embassy sought to translate these principles into local action by combining health awareness, community participation and sport. The initiative highlighted how sporting activities can create opportunities to engage communities around important health issues and encourage collective support for women’s well-being.
For ARGAN Bedaya, the event formed part of its wider commitment to women’s health and well-being at every stage of life, with an emphasis on preventive healthcare, early detection and proactive screening.
The organisation’s support for the establishment of the PSG Girls Football Team also extends this commitment to younger generations. By encouraging girls to participate in football, the initiative aims to promote active and healthy lifestyles while helping them develop confidence, teamwork, resilience and other essential life skills.
Together, these efforts reflect an approach to well-being that combines preventive healthcare with opportunities for women and girls to build confidence, maintain active lifestyles and participate fully in their communities.
The organisers thanked all the women and girls who participated, noting that their enthusiasm and involvement helped bring the event’s message of solidarity to life. They also acknowledged Soroptimist Kuwait for its longstanding work in breast cancer awareness and prevention, as well as Mae Hajjaj, a breast cancer survivor and advocate who continues to raise awareness and support the cause.
“Play in Pink” underscored the power of sport to unite people around a shared cause, carrying a message of solidarity and awareness: “Together on the field against breast cancer.”
