Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have expanded their furry family by welcoming a new puppy into their home. The couple officially confirmed on the October 13 episode of Live! that they are adopting Javi, the puppy who visited the show earlier this week for the show's annual Adopt a Dog segment.
"We have news! We adopted Javi yesterday," shared Mark during the opening of the show. "We have a new baby!" added Kelly of their new puppy. However, the dog is yet to move into the couple's home as he is awaiting medical tests.
"We are like expectant parents," said Kelly. "I started nesting last night. I couldn't sleep. I started making a nest."

Kelly and Mark's dog, Lena, also visited the studio to do a "chemistry test" with Javi. While Lena was initially scared during the "meet cute", she eventually warmed to the puppy. "They wound up playing next to each other. I think we're going to have to do slow exposure, slow. But I think they're going to be A-okay," explained Kelly.
"Great buddies," added Mark.

The new puppy also reminded the ABC star of her late dog, Chewie. "I kept thinking about how much Javi reminded me of Chewie. And I was thinking, 'Oh, I bet Chewie sent Javi here for us,'" she said.
"My beloved dog, who I will never get over and mourn for the rest of my life, sent this little dog here. Because I really, I decided I was only going to get a dog, and I didn't really care about the breed, but I wanted a dog that looked exactly like Lena. Just a small little black dog. That's what I was in the market for. And then you brought this Chewie-like dog, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh!'" Kelly continued.

Later in the episode, when discussing an NFL game, Kelly admitted she didn't watch because she "was just busy nesting and planning for my [her] new child."
"Are you excited?" she asked her husband. "I'm very excited," replied Mark, before Kelly said: "I feel like you were initially more excited, and now I'm doing that thing that I do."

"It's not a contest. It could be equal. It's not a contest," said Mark. "I know. I'm not making it a contest. I'm just saying that I now can't stop thinking about the dog, and you are able to think about other things," responded Kelly.
"I'm a man. I compartmentalize. I'm very excited. I'm very, very excited. But right now I'm just doing the show. Does that make sense?" explained Mark. "I don't know what you're saying, because I am emotionally with Javi...Anxious to get my newborn baby son," concluded Kelly.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' dogs death
Last year, Kelly admitted that she was "not ready" to accept the loss of the family's Shih Tzu, who was put to sleep in February 2025. The star took to Instagram to share a heartfelt compilation video of Chewie from over the years.
In the caption, she penned: "I've been avoiding posting this because it somehow makes it real and I'm not quite ready to let go.
"It's been extremely painful to lose our beloved Chewie. We ache for her every single day. We still look for her and call to her and frankly feel lost. We are so grateful for the almost 18 years we had with this special lady.

"She grew up with our kids and remained at our sides when each left the nest. She waited by the front door to welcome her siblings back home when they returned for visits. She was our stoic constant companion."
Kelly continued: "We know she is running free now somewhere warm and sunny, unburdened by her failing body. We were the luckiest family to have loved and been loved by Chewie.
"Thank you to The North Shore Animal League for blessing us with our fabulous girl. Finally, thank you to everyone for the beautiful messages from all of you who knew or felt like you knew Chewie."
She concluded: "Our hearts may be broken, but are filled with the memories of joy Chewie gave us."
