Cloud Hypervisor, the Rust-based Virtual Machine Monitor that began as an Intel open-source project and evolved into a multi-vendor Linux Foundation project, is out today with a sizable feature update.
Cloud Hypervisor 54 was tagged today and with this new version comes a number of live migration improvements. Cloud Hypervisor 54 adopts a new policy whereby live migrations will work from at least the prior two versions. Moving ahead, live migration of VMs with Cloud Hypervisor should work for at a minimum the past two major releases but potentially more. Cloud Hypervisor 54 also now supports VFIO device live migration for migratable VFIO devices like ConnectX VFs. Another live migration enhancement is cancellation support for use when needed.
Cloud Hypervisor 54 also ships event monitor improvements, experimental ARM SMMUv3 emulation, flat VMDK disk image support, balloon statistics, faster memory prefaulting, AArch64 boot improvements, AMD SEV-SNP enhancements, and a variety of other smaller changes.
