Myanmar Army strikes Naga camp, 36 reportedly killed

GUWAHATI, Oct 11
A major military operation by the Myanmar Army against a Naga insurgent camp in Myanmar has reportedly left 36 insurgents dead. The attack took place in Homalin, a border region where Indian Naga insurgent groups were believed to maintain a strong presence.
According to reports, the Myanmar military launched drone strikes against the camp before carrying out aerial bombardment using military aircraft. The intensive attack reportedly resulted in the complete destruction of the insurgent camp.
Homalin was considered an important base for the Naga insurgent group, which had established a strong presence in the area. The latest military operation could deal a significant blow to the group’s organisational structure and operational capabilities in the region.
Reports suggest that the assault involved the use of drones, followed by bombing raids targeting the camp. The scale of the attack indicates a major military offensive against the insurgent presence in the area. However, further independent confirmation is required regarding the reported death toll and the full extent of the damage.
The timing of the operation has also drawn attention, as the attack reportedly took place after a meeting between the Governments of India and Myanmar. This has triggered speculation over whether discussions between the two countries on border security and counter-insurgency operations had any connection with the military action.
The India-Myanmar border region has long faced security challenges posed by armed insurgent groups operating across remote and difficult-to-monitor areas. The reported strike in Homalin is therefore being viewed as a significant development in the region’s security situation.
However, official confirmation regarding the identities of those killed, the precise circumstances of the operation and any direct link between the India-Myanmar meeting and the military strike is still awaited. Further details are expected to clarify the implications of the operation for insurgent activities and cross-border security.
