JUBA, South Sudan – Juba County in Central Equatoria State has launched a solar street lighting project along Bilpam Road, with authorities saying it is intended to improve security and infrastructure.
Caretaker County Commissioner Kalisto Lado Faustino presided over the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday.
“I am here to serve our people, not just to sit in the office. This is only the beginning, and we intend to extend street lighting to other roads across Juba County,” Faustino said.
The project is being implemented by Light House General Trading and Investment Co. Ltd., which has pledged to support the county’s development plans.
Faustino also warned motorists against reckless driving that damages the lighting infrastructure, saying offenders would face a $5,000 fine and three months’ imprisonment.
He urged residents to cooperate with the county government and support development initiatives funded through public resources.
The county did not announce the number of lights to be installed or the project’s expected completion date.
