Best kids' Christmas gifts 2026, chosen by parents and tested by children

MODU

The MODU may well be the best children’s toy I’ve ever seen, and it’s one of those rare playthings that actually looks great in the living room – handy, as this is the one my child never puts away. I have the Explorer Set, and while it may not be the cheapest toy, if your budget allows, I think it’s absolutely worth the investment. With so many build possibilities, from a rocker or a ride-on to a balance board, you can get all that play value from one set.

Ages: Kids 0-6y

LEGO

This is a great set for encouraging imaginative play and can be built in three different ways. My child enjoys acting out everyday family life with the little figures and accessories – it’s a real winner for encouraging storytelling and role-play without feeling repetitive.

Ages: Kids 2y+

Jojo Maman Bebe

There’s a brilliant mix of activities to discover in this safari-themed set; the little tester I enlisted particularly loved the lion stacker, and the bright colours make the whole set even more appealing. It gives little ones plenty to explore while helping develop fine motor skills and coordination through play.

Ages: Kids 18m+

Mamas & Papas

These classic red Christmas pyjamas are perfect for making the festive season feel extra special for little ones. With soft cotton, contrasting white piping and an embroidered ‘Christmas 2026’ detail, they’re ideal for cosy mornings and those all-important Christmas photos.

Ages: Kids 0-3y

My 1st years

A sweet first problem-solving toy, this friendly farmhouse comes with nine different farm animals that can be played with separately, while the shape-sorting element helps develop fine motor skills and coordination. Being able to personalise the roof with a child’s name gives it a thoughtful extra touch, too.

Ages: Kids 1y+

Mamas & Papas

A lovely duo of practical essentials and a keepsake, this is such a sweet gift for a new baby. There’s also the option for an in-store gifting experience, and the items come in a luxury box with a personalised message, which makes it feel even more special.

Ages: Kids 0-3m

Le Toy Van

Le Toy Van is an iconic children’s brand with a real knack for traditional-feeling product design, and this adorable doctor’s bag is a perfect example. It comes with everything little ones need to role-play, from a stethoscope and thermometer to a syringe and medicine bottle, making it brilliant for storytelling. Plus, the brand is a B Corp, so you can feel good about your purchase.

Ages: Kids 3y+

Zoofamily

A fun addition to playtime, these walkie-talkies are a brilliant toy to throw in the bag for playdates. They come in multiple cute designs, are easy to use, and are a great way to get children playing together, making even a simple game of hide-and-seek feel like a proper adventure.

Ages: Kids 3y+

Orchard Toys

This is the first board game I have introduced to my almost three-year-old, and it’s already a firm favourite. The recognisable characters help with engagement, while the simple rules, movement and silliness help to retain interest without expecting a child to sit still for too long. It’s such a fun way to introduce the idea of playing a family game together.

Ages: Kids 3y+

Stapelstein

I’m a big fan of open-ended toys, and Stapelstein’s rainbow stepping stones are brilliant for encouraging active, imaginative play. The six colourful stones and wobble board can be used for obstacle courses, balancing, building and much more, both indoors and out. For a more accessible option, there’s also the smaller Stapelstein Inside (£83.95, Thekidcollective.co.uk), which nest together and can be used in similarly creative ways.

Ages: Kids 1y+

Nosy Crow

My child loved this clever alternative to a traditional farm set. The characters are easy and fun to construct, while the retro Ingela Arrhenius illustrations are instantly recognisable for any parent familiar with the Nosy Crow book series. It folds away neatly, which is great, while still giving children plenty of scope for imaginative play.

Ages: Kids 3y+

Micro

A first scooter is an exciting milestone, and this one has been a real hit in our house. The adjustable handlebar means it can grow with your child from around age two to five, so they won’t quickly outgrow it, which makes it feel like a worthwhile buy. It’s great for building balance and coordination, while the light-up wheels make scooting feel even more exciting.

Ages: Kids 2-5y

Mattel

With Toy Story 5 hitting cinemas this year, Woody is a welcome addition to any little fan’s wish list. This interactive figure talks, recognises other characters in the range, and brings the magic of the films into playtime. A lovely pick for recreating favourite scenes or making up brand-new adventures with everyone’s favourite cowboy.

Ages: Kids 3y+

My 1st Years

Perfect for little bookworms, this set brings the much-loved story of The Jolly Postman to life through play. It includes the book alongside a postman-themed play set, giving children the chance to act out the story. The personalisation option feels extra special, too, making it the sort of gift that feels both fun and thoughtful.

Ages: Kids 3-5y

Yoto

There’s a reason the Yoto Player frequently secures the top spot on gift guides, and this has quickly become one of those toys I wonder how we managed without. Children will love the independence of choosing their own stories or music, while parents will love that the player can also be controlled from the app. There’s a huge choice of cards to keep kids interested as they grow, so I think this will be well-loved for years to come.

Ages: Kids 3y+

Connetix

A great toy for encouraging problem-solving, this 61-piece open-ended set has everything you need to build a highly entertaining ball run. The glitter tiles and light-up balls are a fun touch, and there’s something very satisfying about watching the finished ball run actually work, making this a brilliant set for curious, hands-on kids.

Ages: Kids 3y+

Petit Pli

An incredibly clever piece of children’s clothing, inspired by the founder's background in aeronautical engineering; the expandable design means the jumper grows with your child. The size I have fits ages three to seven, making the cost per size feel very reasonable – and it looks brilliant on, too. Made from 100 per cent merino wool, it naturally regulates temperature, while also being odour- and stain-resistant, which is a bonus.

Ages: Kids 0-7y

Wonderbly

There’s something really special about having a book that feels so completely personal. I opted for the ‘Where are you?’ family version, and the characters are customisable, making the excitement of finding familiar faces throughout the story even more magical. Wonderbly has plenty of personalised books for children of all ages (and adults!), so there’s something for everyone.

Ages: 4-10y

Banwood

A very cool first skateboard for little ones aged 3+, the nostalgic design ensures it looks just as good tucked away at home as it does out on the pavement. The small cruiser board is designed for a relaxed, stable ride, with soft high-rebound wheels and a grippy Canadian maple deck that’s comfortable for little feet. I’d definitely pair it with the matching Banwood helmet, which has an adjustable fit and comes in lots of lovely colours.

Ages: 3y+

Mattel

If you have a little KPop Demon Hunters fan in your life, this is guaranteed to be a huge hit. The Rumi doll sings “Golden”, which immediately makes it more exciting than a standard fashion doll, and the movie-inspired outfit and long purple braids make her instantly recognisable.

Ages: 4y+

Cool Maker

This one is for creative kids who love making things they can actually wear and show off. The charms can be turned into bracelets, bag charms, or attached to shoelaces, while the push-button studio adds another element of fun. The built-in storage is also a very welcome bonus for keeping all those tiny pieces together.

Ages: 6y+

LEGO

Star Wars enthusiasts are going to have a lot of fun with this set, which brings five much-loved characters to life in LEGO BrickHeadz style. With 661 pieces to build, there’s plenty to keep fans occupied. Once built, they look great on display, making them an excellent choice for both playing and showing off their handiwork.

Ages: 10y+

Tamagotchi

For anyone who remembers spending hours playing with a Tamagotchi as a child, the nostalgic appeal of the original is hard to beat, and caring for the virtual pet is also a fun way to teach children about responsibility. It’s a nice way to introduce a new generation to the toys many of us grew up with, and a brilliant gift for anyone who loves a bit of retro gaming.

Ages: 4y+

Exploding Kittens

My family loves board games, and this one is guaranteed to have everyone gathered around the table, getting far too competitive. The spells and curses make each round feel a little unpredictable, while secret packs unlock new cards as you play, so the game keeps changing, making this a very fun way to spend an evening together.

Ages: 7y+

Jellycat

Jellycat has a knack for turning even the most unexpected characters into something charming, and with his shaggy grey coat, oversized paws and friendly face, Ulrich Wolf has plenty of personality without looking too fierce. At £60, this is a considered purchase, but for a child who loves animals, or a Jellycat collector, it’s a special addition.

Ages: 0y+

VTech

Get ready for some serious singing in the living room: this comes with two wireless microphones, built-in songs, fun voice effects and eight games. There’s plenty to keep children entertained beyond the karaoke itself, while the colourful lights make it feel like a proper little party. It’s ideal for budding singers and little starlets who love putting on a show.

Ages: 3y+

Stackers

Perfect for a child or teenager starting their own jewellery collection, the compact size with the option to add layers means that you can create a box that grows with your child’s jewellery collection. With many different colours and finishes to choose from, it feels much more grown-up than a traditional children’s jewellery box, so it’s something they can keep and use for years.
