Guwahati, Oct 15: Raijor Dal legislator Akhil Gogoi on Thursday ended his 13-day sit-in after two Assam cabinet ministers assured him that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had accepted his demands for adequate compensation to flood-affected families in four Upper Assam districts.
The decision followed a meeting at the protest site outside the assembly, where ministers Keshab Mahanta and Pijush Hazarika conveyed the government’s commitment to provide relief to those impacted in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat.
Gogoi had launched the indefinite sit-in on October 2, pressing for enhanced compensation packages for flood-hit residents. His withdrawal marks a significant step toward resolving the prolonged standoff between the opposition party and the state government over disaster relief measures.
