Kathmandu, October 13
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has begun providing relief payments to the families of its employees who went missing in the Bhotekoshi flood on August 26.
A total of 47 NEA employees went missing in the disaster. The Authority has initially provided relief to the families of six of them.
According to a decision by the NEA Board of Directors, the dependants of each missing employee are entitled to Rs 500,000 in immediate relief and half of the employee’s starting salary for their respective position for six months.
The Authority said the legal heirs of six employees who submitted applications with the required supporting documents have received the relief payments. It has urged other eligible family members who have yet to receive assistance to apply with the necessary documents.
Applicants must submit documents proving their relationship to the missing employee, their citizenship certificates and, in the case of minors, birth registration certificates.
They must also provide a recommendation letter from the local government confirming their status as the closest legal heirs, their bank account numbers and an application requesting relief.
The NEA said further assistance would be provided in the coming days in accordance with its regulations and any relief package announced by the government.
