Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has called for stronger collaboration between government and the private sector to create opportunities for young Nigerians to innovate, build businesses and generate wealth.
Obasa said public policies must align with private capital to unlock the potential of young people, stressing that government alone could not provide the structures needed to support youth-led enterprise.
The Speaker made the call while speaking with reporters on the sidelines of the inaugural Seyi Tinubu Colloquium held at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Monday.
In a statement shared on his official X handle, on Tuesday, October 13, Obasa said the event, themed “Shaping the Future Together,” highlighted the need to move beyond describing young people as leaders of tomorrow.
“Tomorrow is here, and we must create the opportunities and structures that enable young Nigerians to lead, innovate and build wealth,” he said.
He urged private businesses to treat young people as partners in enterprise and innovation, calling for greater investment in technology, mentorship and emerging businesses.

“Government cannot do it alone. The private sector must see young people as partners in enterprise and innovation, investing in technology, mentorship and emerging businesses, supported by policies that encourage growth,” Obasa said.
The Speaker said the Lagos State House of Assembly was committed to promoting digital literacy and technology-driven businesses through legislative and other initiatives aimed at supporting youth entrepreneurship.
“At the Lagos State House of Assembly, our commitment to digital literacy, technology-driven enterprises and initiatives such as the Lagos State Wealth Fund and Lagos Innovation Bill reflects our determination to create an enabling environment for youth-led innovation and entrepreneurship,” he said.

Obasa also commended Seyi Tinubu for initiating the colloquium, describing it as a platform for engagement and collaboration between different generations.
“I commend @STinubu for initiating this platform for cross-generational engagement and collaboration,” he said.
He, however, maintained that the impact of the initiative should be assessed by the opportunities it creates rather than the discussions held at the event.
“Ultimately, its success must be measured not by speeches, but by investments, partnerships and tangible opportunities created for our youths,” he added.
Obasa further urged stakeholders to take practical steps to empower young Nigerians, warning against preparing them for opportunities that never materialise.
“We must stop preparing young people for a future that never arrives and empower them to shape the present,” he said.
“Nigeria’s prosperity depends on the deliberate investments and decisive actions we take today.”
