Global children's intellectual property brand Pinkfong Baby Shark is heading to theaters ahead of Christmas.
The Pinkfong Company said it has confirmed a Dec. 5 release at CGV theaters for the film "Baby Shark Christmas Special: The Santa Contest," and released a teaser poster along with the first stills.
The film is set in the undersea village of Chomp Chomp two days before Christmas, where Santa is injured and a contest is held to pick his successor. Baby Shark, his best friend William and their friends take on a series of missions. The story aims to deliver the excitement of Christmas and warm laughs through lighthearted competition and unpredictable challenges.
The production was made as a sing-and-dance-along animation. Audiences can hear seven new songs featured in the film through full theater sound, and sing and dance along with the characters as if joining the Christmas party on screen. The aim is to go beyond watching the screen and expand the fun of theatergoing by drawing viewers into participation.
Baby Shark Boy, the star of the "Baby Shark Dance" video who released his first digital single, "WAVE," last summer, also makes a surprise appearance as the on-screen host. A limited-edition "Santa Baby Shark" plush keyring will also go on sale alongside the film's release, which is expected to draw interest from fans looking to keep a memento of their visit.
The "Pinkfong Baby Shark Dance" video, released in 2015, has surpassed 17.4 billion cumulative views and has ranked as the most-viewed video on YouTube worldwide for 71 consecutive months. Having expanded from a children's fan base into music, characters and a range of content, Baby Shark is now set to meet family audiences in theaters with this Christmas film.
