Ranbir Kapoor has apologised for a slip of tongue during a Dussehra event in Kolkata while promoting his upcoming film Ramayana: Part One. The Bollywood actor said he had misspoken while conveying the festival’s message about the triumph of good over evil.
The 44-year-old actor, who attended the event on Tuesday along with the film’s team, mistakenly said that truth and goodness would ultimately perish while speaking about the significance of Dussehra.
“Dussehra hume ek bahut khoobsurat baat yaad dilati hai ki burai chahein jitni bhi taaqatwar kyun na ho, aakhir mein ant sachchai aur achhai ki hi hogi (No matter how powerful evil may be, truth and goodness would ultimately perish)," Kapoor had said.
He addressed the gaffe on Wednesday during the film’s promotional activities in Chennai.
“I want to apologise about an incident that happened yesterday while I was at a Dussehra event. I had a slip of the tongue. What I was meant to say is, ‘Burai chahe kitni bhi taqatwar kyun na ho, aakhir mein jeet sachchai aur achchai ki hogi’,” Kapoor said.
The actor then quoted the opening lyrics of Jo Bhi Main, a song from his 2011 film Rockstar, in an apparent reference to his verbal slip. “Jo bhi main kehna chahun, barbaad kare alfaaz mere (Whatever I wish to say, my words end up ruining it),” he said.
“So, I truly apologise for that,” he added.
At the Kolkata event, Kapoor had described Ramayana as a story that connects people through love, faith and culture. The film features Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and visual effects studio DNEG, in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. Sony Pictures will distribute the film globally.
Ramayana: Part One is scheduled for a worldwide release on Diwali 2026.
