LG Electronics (066570.KS) has unveiled its "Zero Labor Home" business vision to global customers, promising to sharply reduce household chores through robots and artificial intelligence-powered home appliances.
The company said on the 19th that it recently released a brand heritage video on an outdoor billboard in New York's Times Square under the theme "Life Asks, LG Answers." The video introduces Zero Labor Home, a new business goal under which LG Electronics plans to move into AI home and robotics by drawing on the appliance innovations and technology it has built up while solving everyday inconveniences.
The video first walks through the company's technology milestones, starting with the Snowflake refrigerator in 1965 and the Swan washing machine, South Korea's first, in 1969, and running through its current AI appliances and new products in the ultra-premium built-in SKS line. It then traces the inverter direct-drive motor, which began as a motor for electric fans in 1962, to LG Axium, the core component that now serves as the joints of its robots.
The video closes with the company's future vision for robotics and physical AI. LG Electronics developed South Korea's first educational robot in 1983, followed by a cleaning robot in 2003 and LG CLOi, a service robot that handles guidance, delivery and serving, in 2018. This year it unveiled LG CLOiD, a home robot. In the first quarter of next year, it plans to introduce a bipedal humanoid robot developed jointly with Nvidia.
LG Electronics also plans to run the video on an outdoor billboard at London's Piccadilly Circus and on major streaming services. "We will share LG Electronics' heritage and future vision with global customers and continue to deliver differentiated brand value," said Ryu Joo-hyun, head of marketing communications for LG Electronics' Home Appliance Solution division.
