A big Liverpool transfer is on the way according to Fabrizio Romano.
It's a busy time for Julian Ward. Just as he is settling in he already has to contend with an upcoming transfer window. We may only be in October, but January is just around the corner.
The world of football is fast-paced and doesn't really slow down. It means clubs have to be proactive, and they need to act fast in the market before anyone else catches onto them.
Ward is now being tasked with one of the most fundamental parts of the Liverpool rebuild project. The key essentials have been brought in.
Liverpool have some superstars. What Andoni Iraola needs is a balanced squad, and a team that works together. It's Ward's job to make things work.
Liverpool's biggest priority in the January window
There are still cracks within this Liverpool squad. It's why the start to the season has been far from perfect.
One of the biggest issues within the team is the lack of balance in midfield. Iraola has some absolutely brilliant midfielders. Dominik Szoboszlai has been tremendous for the Reds. Ryan Gravenberch can also be a fantastic midfielder.
But the problem is the two of them simply don't work together. They don't strike the right balanced.
Liverpool have looked far better with Alexis Mac Allister and Trey Nyoni playing, even though the former is someone they are open to selling and the latter is still a youngster.
So, the club's priority will be to bolster their options and bring in a midfielder who would also offer balance.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool's big transfer is coming
Could they be doing that in the January window?
There were murmurs about Lamine Camara after the end of the summer window, and it is clear that the Reds are planning on a big transfer in 2027 for a midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano has now also confirmed it.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he revealed Liverpool are intensifying discussions about signing a midfielder.
“So, Liverpool are following Lamine Camara. They have been tracking him for a long time. There have been some calls regarding Alex Scott, and Liverpool have also been tracking Lamine Camara.
“What I can tell you is that Liverpool are planning to do something important in midfield in 2027, adding very good players to that area. So, these are not just backup players. They want players who can be starters or future starters at Liverpool.
“Midfield is an area Liverpool have started considering, not just because of the calls regarding Alex Scott, with Chelsea also interested, and not just because of their appreciation of Lamine Camara. It is also a general consideration. Even in the conversations they are having with the coach, Andoni Iraola, midfield is an area Liverpool want to address in 2027.
“Then, it is a question of whether that happens in January or in the summer. It depends on the opportunity. We know Liverpool’s style. Even now, with the new directors, it is not about going out and buying players simply for the sake of buying them or filling a position. Liverpool like to enter the market only when the right opportunity is there, and that will remain the main strategy at Liverpool."
