Oscar Bobb’s 80th-minute goal gave Fulham a 1-0 away win over Coventry City in the Premier League on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Two Super Eagles, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi, were central to the result.
Background
Fulham arrived at the Coventry Building Society Arena after a patchy start to the season. They lost 3-2 to Chelsea and 1-0 at Sunderland in August, then lost 3-2 at home to Crystal Palace in September. Draws against Liverpool (0-0) and Manchester United (1-1) showed their resilience, but a 2-1 defeat at Ipswich on October 10 left them searching for consistency. A 1-0 home win over Hull City the following Saturday steadied them, and the trip to Coventry was a chance to build on it.
Game report
Fulham dominated the ball, finishing with 65 percent possession to Coventry’s 35. They took 12 shots, three on target, and won six corners to the hosts’ four. Coventry also managed 12 attempts, two on target, but Fulham kept them out.
The match stayed tight and goalless for most of the contest. Fulham had the first booking, in the 36th minute, and both sides began making changes around the hour mark. Then came the decisive moment in the 80th minute, when Bobb found the net to put the visitors ahead. Fulham picked up another yellow card in the 82nd minute as Coventry pushed for an equaliser, but the hosts could not break through.
Nigerian watch Bassey played the full 90 minutes at centre-back, completing 76 accurate passes and making seven clearances to help secure the clean sheet. Iwobi started in midfield and played 74 minutes, completing 44 accurate passes and having one shot.
What next
Fulham travel to Aston Villa next Saturday, October 31, before hosting Newcastle United on November 7.
Two notes for you as the editor. The match data I pulled lists neither Taiwo Awoniyi nor Frank Onyeka in Coventry’s lineup or substitutes, so I left your “Nigerian contingent” line out of this version. If you have a source for it, check it before restoring that line. I also didn’t have a detailed account of how Bobb’s goal was created, so I left the build-up out rather than guess.
