Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry is targeting the animation sector as a strategic driver to expand employment opportunities across Indonesia.
Industry Minister Muhammad Sarmuji stated that animation remains a labor-intensive industry, as its production process requires significant human involvement to handle intricate details.
"Animation requires a large workforce because the fine details must still be executed by human hands," Sarmuji said during a visit to the Industrial Training Center in Denpasar, Bali, on Saturday.
He explained that despite rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology, the creative sector relies heavily on human talent alongside capital and technology to produce high-quality output.
Sarmuji noted that this dynamic presents a major opportunity for Indonesia to expand its digital economy while generating job prospects nationwide.
He emphasized the government's commitment to positioning the industrial sector as a primary source of national employment.
"We are determined to ensure that the industrial sector serves as a major hub for job creation, and we have found that the digital industry, in particular, has a high capacity for absorbing labor," Sarmuji said.
He expressed confidence in the global competitiveness of Indonesian talent, pointing to local involvement in the production of the feature-length animated film "Jumbo."
Sarmuji highlighted that three key personnel on the "Jumbo" production team are graduates of the Denpasar Industrial Training Center.
He noted that their achievement proves that targeted vocational training can produce a creative workforce capable of leading major national projects.
"If we approach this seriously, it becomes clear that our own people have the potential to succeed. They simply require our attention and support as fellow citizens," he said.
Sarmuji stressed that expanding the animation industry requires upgrading human resource competencies, improving training infrastructure, and building closer ties between vocational institutions and media companies.
The Denpasar Industrial Training Center functions as a core hub supporting these efforts through specialized training programs, apprenticeships, and direct corporate partnerships.
The center also provides vocational high school students with access to industry-grade facilities to align their technical skills with professional market demands.
