Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has warned against any attempt to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, from the throne, saying such a move could trigger unrest in Oyo State.
Igboho issued the warning in a video shared by a local media platform, Oyo Affairs, on Friday, amid allegations of a plan to dethrone the traditional ruler.
He cautioned that any governor who attempted to remove Ladoja would face resistance, insisting that the monarch should be allowed to remain on the throne without intimidation.
“They will declare a state of emergency. If any governor tries it, it is from Soka here that this state would be shaking,” he said.
Questioning the alleged plan, Igboho said Ladoja deserved respect as an indigene of Oyo State.
“Why will you remove Olubadan? All of us are from Oyo State,” he added.
The agitator also reacted to claims that there were plans to ambush the monarch, warning that such talk should remain a rumour and should not be acted upon.
“When someone told me that they said they were going to waylay Olubadan, I said no one dare try such. It should remain a gossip. You cannot go and ambush him. Even when he is not yet Olubadan, you dare not, not to talk of now that he is on that seat,” Igboho said.
He further warned those allegedly considering such an action that they would face resistance.
“One million of you dare not try it. If you attempt it, you will run away from the government house. How will you say you want to ambush Olubadan at his home? It should remain a gossip,” he added.
Igboho said he had personally reassured Ladoja that he had no reason to fear for his safety.
“I have told Olubadan, ‘Baba, sleep and snore. There is no one that can come and meet you in your house. We are all indigenes of Oyo State. May Olubadan live long,” he said.
The controversy followed allegations by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who reportedly claimed that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde was planning to remove Ladoja from the throne.
According to an earlier report by PUNCH Online on April 13, 2026, Fayose alleged that the state government could issue the monarch a query over his reported absence from a planned coronation of high chiefs in Ibadanland.
Makinde’s administration denied the allegation. The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the government had neither considered nor discussed removing the monarch.
Ladoja’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, also dismissed suggestions of a disagreement between the governor and the traditional ruler.
The controversy later extended to separate allegations concerning Ladoja’s purported involvement in political discussions surrounding the state’s governorship succession. The monarch denied involvement in any plot to impeach Makinde.
On April 17, the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, said Ibadan elders had intervened in the reported disagreement. He urged Ladoja to remain above partisan politics and serve as a father figure to politicians across party lines.
