PETALING JAYA: A landslide near Leisure Bay Condominium in Tanjung Tokong, Penang, partly buried two cars this evening, though no casualties were reported.
The fire and rescue department said the Bagan Jermal station received a call about the incident at 6.50pm and its personnel arrived at the scene 10 minutes later.
It said the six firefighters, including a supervisor, were assisted by the police.
The incident followed a similar landslide which struck a house at Taman Seri Rambai in Paya Terubong this morning, killing a 73-year-old doctor, Wong Kar Lin.
Wong’s 68-year-old wife and mother-in-law, who were upstairs, escaped without injuries.
Heavy rain in Penang last night triggered flash floods in several areas on the island and mainland, including Bayan Lepas, Bayan Baru, Seberang Jaya, Ampang Jajar and Bukit Mertajam.
The meteorological department has issued a continuous rain warning for Penang, Perlis, Kedah and Perak until tomorrow.
