A political row has erupted over the phrase “regime change” amid protests against the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. BJP leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, have accused the Opposition of using youth-led protests to create unrest and pursue a Bangladesh-style political upheaval. The controversy intensified after AISA president Neha Bora praised Bangladesh’s Gen-Z uprising and lawyer Prashant Bhushan said seeking regime change was a democratic right. Congress leaders reject the charge, arguing that their campaign against alleged electoral malpractice is a demand for accountability and a change of government through democratic means.
