KUALA LUMPUR: The 24-year-old driver of a BYD Seal involved in a six-vehicle crash that killed a 5-year-old girl along Jalan Kuching will face three charges at the magistrate's court tomorrow.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the driver was arrested at Hospital Damansara about 11.30am.
He said the driver was subsequently taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters lock-up.
"The investigation papers were referred to the prosecution director at 3pm today.
"Following discussions, the prosecution agreed to charge the driver with three offences under the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
Zamzuri said the driver would face charges under Section 41(1) for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, Section 42(1) for reckless and dangerous driving, and Section 52(1) for failing to stop and report an accident.
He said the driver was expected to be brought before Magistrate's Court 13 (Traffic) at the Jalan Duta court complex at 9am tomorrow.
The crash occurred at 3.44pm on Saturday, killing a 5-year-old girl and injuring her father and a motorcyclist.
Five cars and a motorcycle were involved in the collision along Jalan Kuching.
Initial investigations revealed that traffic was moving slowly from the city centre towards Segambut when the BYD Seal rear-ended a Perodua Bezza driven by the girl's 30-year-old father.
The impact sent the Bezza, which also collided with a motorcycle, spinning into the right lane, where it struck three other vehicles — a Nissan Almera, a Toyota Alphard and a Perodua Myvi.
The girl, who was seated in the Bezza's rear passenger seat, sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
Her father suffered injuries to his right hand, while the 33-year-old Yamaha 135LC motorcyclist sustained head injuries.
Police later located the BYD Seal driver at a private hospital in Damansara, where he was receiving treatment for a concussion.
