What We Know
Spain extradited the suspect known as “Vida Loca” to Madagascar on Friday 16 October 2026, according to Newsmada and Défi Media. Spanish authorities had detained him on an international arrest warrant from Madagascar’s Pôle Anti-Corruption (PAC), the country’s anti-corruption unit, and on an Interpol Red Notice.
Défi Media has named him as Maurice Vitto Laurent Jeevanji, aged 57, in a January 2026 profile. He is a Franco-Mauritian man and a naturalised French citizen, while other outlets call him Laurent Vitto.
According to Newsmada, the charges are high-risk drug trafficking, money laundering and criminal association (“association de malfaiteurs” in French). These are accusations at this stage, and he is presumed innocent until a court rules.
Newsmada reported that the extradition followed judicial cooperation between Madagascar and Spain. The ministries of Justice, Foreign Affairs and Public Security, Interpol and Spanish authorities all took part.
An Interpol Red Notice asks police in member countries to locate a wanted person and hold them provisionally pending extradition. Spain acted on both that notice and the Madagascan warrant.
The Network Investigators Describe
Défi Media reported in January 2026 that investigators suspect “Vida Loca” of being the central figure and financier of an international cocaine network. The network allegedly ran between Madagascar, Mauritius and Southeast Asia, touching Bangkok, Pattaya, Antananarivo and Port Louis.
The same reporting says he allegedly financed the Appaya clan, a group named in the reporting. It also says Spain had opened its own drug investigation.
Défi Media reported that 16 kg of cocaine was seized in Madagascar in February 2025. It also says three Mauritians and five Malagasies were arrested in early 2025.
Défi Media reported that a confidential PAC report on the matter went to Mauritius’ Financial Crimes Commission (FCC). The FCC is among the Mauritian bodies investigating the case.
Défi Media further reported that an intercepted phone call in January 2025 reportedly contained instructions on transporting drugs and threats. We have not independently verified this, and none of it has been tested in court.
What Is Not Known
The date of his arrest in Spain has not been made public in the reports we reviewed. Nor is it known where he is being held in Madagascar or when he will appear in court.
No plea has been reported, and no statement from his lawyers has appeared in the coverage we saw. No official figure for the money involved has been published in those reports either.
Motives, roles and guilt are matters for the court, and we do not speculate on them. Défi Media’s account of the network rests on investigators’ suspicions, not on a verdict.
What It Means for Readers in the United States
This is a story about transit routes and money, not about a single country. Défi Media describes a network spanning the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia, touching hubs such as Bangkok and Pattaya.
The case also shows Interpol cooperation at work, with Spain acting on a Red Notice and a warrant issued in Madagascar. For compliance teams, it is a reminder that cross-border money laundering cases can involve several jurisdictions at once.
Mauritius’ Financial Crimes Commission is named in the reporting as one of the bodies investigating. Madagascar’s anti-corruption unit issued the arrest warrant that led to his detention in Spain.

The suspect is now in Madagascar and the charges are yet to be tested in court. Further official detail on his detention, hearing and plea would show how the case proceeds.
