Early next year, the bugged-out Philadelphia punk band Soul Glo will finally return with NA I’M GON GRAB ALLAT, the long-awaited follow-up to their 2002 instant classic Diaspora Problems. The new record is really shaping up to be something, too. We've already posted lead single "February Theory," an unhinged freakout with trace elements of club music threaded throughout. Today, Soul Glo have another new song, and it's a collaboration with TV On The Radio's Tunde Adebimpe.
The mere fact of Tunde Adebimpe singing on a Soul Glo song is fucking awesome. It's like a much smaller-scale version of whatn TV On The Radio had David Bowie on "Province" 20 years ago. Much like TVOTR, Soul Glo don't stop sounding like themselves just because they're working with a legend. Their new song, "Ppl Worried," is a thundering, erratic lurch about snorting coke and scaring the people around you: "Love enters through the nose! The nostril's my favorite hole! I can't fucking quit it, bro!" The song sounds coked-out, too. The thundering drums and "fuck it" chants really hit, and I love how Pierce Jordan slides into his feral rap delivery.
Pierce Jordan's not the only guest on NA I’M GON GRAB ALLAT, either. It's also got contributions from Oxbow's Eugene Robinson, Commitment’s Tati Salazar, Mannequin Pussy's Colins "Bear" Regisford, and rappers MIKE and Bbymutha. Also, Soul Glo are currently on tour with Chat Pile and Shallowater, so you should go see them if you can. Check out "Ppl Worried" below.
NA I’M GON GRAB ALLAT is out 1/15 on Epitaph.
