GHANA’S Golden Shuttlers have emerged winners of the Suhandinata Cup Team Cheers Award at the 2026 BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
The Team Cheers Award recognises the junior squad for its outstanding and energetic team spirit, cheering and support beyond the courts. The activity adds a cultural and entertainment dimension to the championship, energising the atmosphere and giving players an opportunity to connect with supporters and fellow competitors.
Ghana beat 48 other nations to secure a place among the top three finalists, alongside Team Germany and Team Philippines, following a captivating team display during the preliminary stages of the competition last Thursday.
The final was attended by top officials of the sport, including BWF President, Madam Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, and the President of the Egyptian Badminton Federation, Dr Hadia Hosny, as well as other badminton bigwigs.
Team Ghana entered Saturday’s final on the back of three consecutive victories over Algeria, Austria and Egypt in the Mixed Team Relay Championship, boosting confidence ahead of the Team Cheers Award final.
Led by Francis Obeng-Shang, Obabompa Adu-Mintah, Racheal Quarcoo and Moslena Adu, the Ghanaian contingent, which also included Alana Faith Sullo, Samuel Amasah and Margaret Sarpei, impressed organisers and spectators with an energetic performance that celebrated teamwork, national pride and Ghanaian culture.
Demonstrating balance, flexibility and showmanship, the Golden Shuttlers captured the audience’s attention with their powerful team chant, built around the message, “We are here to dominate!” delivered in both English and Twi.
The team’s spirited and precise delivery, combined with coordinated movements and acrobatic flips, demonstrated its unity, creativity and determination, earning applause from the crowd, including the dignitaries in attendance.
The triumph marks a proud moment for Ghanaian badminton and places the Golden Shuttlers in the spotlight for their ability to combine sporting ambition with cultural expression.
