Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has condoled with the family of late National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and former Students’ Union Government president of Akwa Ibom State University, Etimbuk Daniel, assuring them of the state government’s support.
Eno gave the assurance during a personal condolence visit to the family at Ikot Etim in Ukanafun Local Government Area.
The visit followed an earlier condolence delegation sent by the governor on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. He said he considered it important to visit the family personally to reassure them that they were not alone in their grief.
Expressing sadness over the incident, Eno recalled meeting the deceased on a few occasions and described him as a brilliant young man.
He assured the family that the state government would provide support where possible to ease their pain.
The deceased’s father, Daniel Sunday, thanked the governor for his compassion, saying the family had not expected him to visit personally after an earlier government delegation had conveyed its condolences.
He described his late son as a young man of great potential and prayed for God’s continued blessings and strength for the governor.

Meanwhile, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced an investigation into Daniel’s death at the NYSC orientation camp in Awgu, Enugu State, following reports linking the incident to suspected substandard or falsified medicines.
In a statement on Monday, NAFDAC Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, cautioned against drawing conclusions about the cause of death while investigations were ongoing.
The agency said preliminary clinical information indicated that Daniel was initially taken to the camp clinic with symptoms suggestive of severe malaria and a history of peptic ulcer disease. His condition later deteriorated, prompting his referral to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, where resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
NAFDAC said the preliminary clinical assessment identified acute kidney injury associated with severe dehydration and shock as the suspected cause of death. However, it stressed that the findings did not establish whether the medicines administered to him contributed to his death.
As part of the investigation, NAFDAC officers visited the camp clinic, interviewed medical personnel and other staff, and collected medicine samples for laboratory analysis.
The agency said further regulatory action would depend on the outcome of the investigation.
