The move links a data-focused project with Sui's blockchain and the Walrus storage network to support sourcing and verification of AI training material.
DATA Network has announced a partnership with Sui and Walrus to scale what it describes as the supply chain for AI training data. The announcement positions the project at the intersection of two fast-growing sectors: blockchain infrastructure and artificial intelligence development.
Sui is a Layer-1 blockchain designed for high throughput and low-latency transactions. It has positioned itself as infrastructure for applications that require fast settlement and scalable data handling. Walrus is a decentralized storage protocol built on top of Sui. It is designed to handle large files, often called blobs, in a way that remains verifiable and resistant to tampering.
By joining this ecosystem, DATA Network aims to address a persistent bottleneck in AI development. Training large language models and other AI systems requires enormous volumes of data. That data must be sourced, cleaned, labeled, and verified before it becomes useful for training purposes. Centralized data pipelines have faced criticism over transparency, provenance, and the ability to confirm where data originated.
Blockchain-based storage and coordination layers offer an alternative approach. They can create auditable records of how data moves from source to training set. Walrus's role as a storage layer allows large datasets to be stored in a decentralized manner, rather than relying solely on centralized cloud providers. Sui's transaction infrastructure can support the coordination, payment, and verification steps that a data supply chain requires.
The partnership reflects a broader trend of blockchain projects pursuing use cases tied to the AI boom. As demand for AI training data grows, so does interest in systems that can prove data integrity and track its lifecycle. Projects that combine decentralized storage with verifiable computation argue they can offer advantages over purely centralized alternatives, particularly around transparency and auditability.
Details about the specific technical mechanisms DATA Network will use within the Sui and Walrus ecosystem were not disclosed in the available reporting. Neither source provided figures on data volume, timelines, or financial terms tied to the integration. The announcement centers on the structural collaboration between the three parties rather than on quantified outcomes.
The story was reported by Brave New Coin and Finbold within minutes of each other on October 12, 2026. Both outlets described the same core development: DATA Network's integration with Sui and Walrus to scale AI training data infrastructure.
Market Impact
For the Sui ecosystem, the addition of a data-focused project could reinforce its positioning as infrastructure for AI-adjacent applications, a narrative that has drawn increased attention across the broader crypto market. Walrus stands to benefit from expanded use cases for its storage layer, particularly if demand for verifiable AI training datasets grows alongside the wider AI industry's data needs.
The broader implication touches on how blockchain infrastructure intersects with AI development. If decentralized storage and coordination layers prove effective for managing training data supply chains, other AI-focused projects may look to similar blockchain integrations. However, the available reporting does not include metrics on adoption, data throughput, or market reaction, so the practical scale of this impact remains to be seen.
The integration marks another step in blockchain projects aligning with AI infrastructure needs, though further details on scale and execution will determine its broader significance.
