The Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) decided not to issue punitive measures against TV stations that broadcast a campaign commercial for the “Aleksandar Vucic - United Serbia” electoral list featuring children. The decision clears the Serbian state TV (RTS), Radio Television Vojvodina (RTV), B92 TV, Pink TV, Prva TV, and K1 TV, all of which denied that broadcasting the ad violated the law.

The motion to pursue further disciplinary action failed to secure enough votes after the majority of the council determined that no legal violations had taken place.
Representatives from all implicated broadcasters attended the REM Council meeting, with the sole exception of Prva TV, whose leadership submitted their response in writing.
Sabic: The most direct, obvious exploitation of children

A segment of the REM Council voted in favor of penalizing the broadcasters that ran the ad, and Council member Rodoljub Sabic said the broadcast constituted the “most direct and obvious” exploitation of children for political purposes.
“This is a textbook political message. If this doesn’t qualify as the exploitation of children for political gain, then I truly do not know what does,” Sabic said.
Of the seven REM Council members present at the meeting, three voted to move forward with the disciplinary proceedings.
