(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 12 OTT - As part of the 26th Week of the Italian Language in the World, held under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Brussels, the Apostolic Nunciature, and the Italian Embassy in Belgium organized a meeting dedicated to the book *Pensare Francesco. History, Memory, and Political Use” (Il Mulino), edited by Valerio DeCesaris, Daniele Menozzi, Andrea Possieri, and Adriano Roccucci. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the figure of St. Francis—one of the most significant in Western Christianity—and on the various ways in which his legacy has been interpreted and utilized over the centuries.
The event featured Andrea Possieri, a professor at the University of Perugia and one of the book’s four editors, and Giacomo Gambassi, a Vatican correspondent for *Avvenire*, who engaged in a dialogue accompanied by images, sounds, and videos. “As the President of the Republic stated on October 4, the figure of the Patron Saint of Italy is more relevant than ever in an era marked, unfortunately, by ‘senseless and cruel wars,’” remarked Federica Favi, Italy’s Ambassador to Brussels. “The values embodied in the Saint’s work are fully aligned with those of our foreign policy.” Also present at the event—which was introduced by Pierre Di Toro, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels, and Chiara Fama—were the Apostolic Nuncio, Monsignor Franco Coppola, and the President of the Umbria Region, Stefania Proietti.
