Emmanuel Acho went live on Speakeasy, his YouTube show, shortly after the Washington Commanders‘ 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. Sitting alongside LeSean McCoy, he aimed his opening frustration at Jayden Daniels and reached for a comparison to a quarterback he has spent years criticizing.
“Jayden Daniels is simply a melanated Justin Herbert. Jayden Daniels is living off of the success, the wild success of his rookie season. Justin Herbert rookie season, 35 touchdowns. We never seen anything like it. And Justin Herbert, like a kite, was just able to glide for years off of that rookie season.
“Jayden Daniels rookie season, NFC Championship game. We hadn’t truly seen anything like it. And for the last 18 months now, Jayden Daniels has been gliding off the success of that rookie campaign.
“But eventually, the wind has to stop blowing. And we have to realize what the hell is really going on, because Jayden Daniels was as unimpressive today as he was impressive. He missed as many throws as he did indeed make. He made as many bad decisions as he made quality decisions.
“How do you throw the ball away on fourth-and-2, when with the game on the line, you take a sack? Somebody has to make it make sense. When I see Jayden Daniels, I see Justin Herbert with a tan.” Acho said on Speakeasy.
Herbert’s rookie line was actually 31 touchdown passes in 2020, then an NFL rookie record, and 36 total touchdowns. Acho made the comparison a day after Herbert’s Chargers fell to 0-6 with a 22-6 loss in Kansas City, a game that ended with Jim Harbaugh saying the team would look at everything on offense.
Early in the second quarter against San Francisco, with Washington down 10, Daniels rolled right on fourth-and-2 at the 49ers’ 13 and threw the ball away. An illegal shift flag was declined, and the drive ended without points.
Daniels said afterward he saw a flag but did not know what it was for, and that he needed to execute better in that spot regardless. On the final snap, with Washington needing a touchdown from just past midfield, Romello Height sacked Daniels before he could get a Hail Mary off.
The week before, Daniels went down at the New York Giants’ 24 with seconds left in overtime, and the clock expired before Washington could spike it, locking in a 27-27 tie. Daniels took the blame for that one and called it a failure.

Is Jayden Daniels really living off his rookie season?
Daniels finished Monday 29 of 40 for 300 yards and two touchdowns without an interception, after losing Terry McLaurin to a knee injury in the first quarter. Washington outgained San Francisco 224-72 after halftime, which makes “as unimpressive as he was impressive” a hard line to defend from the box score alone.

The 18 months Acho described also include a season Daniels mostly spent hurt. Knee, hamstring and elbow injuries limited him to seven games in 2025, and Washington finished 5-12.
Washington went 12-5 and reached the NFC Championship Game in Daniels’ rookie year, and it is 1-4-1 now, with its last two results decided by a clock-management error in overtime and a sack on the final snap.
Daniels has had to answer for a mistake after each of those games.
