A 24-hour strike by non-teaching staff, called by the National Union of Education Professionals (Sinape), has closed several secondary and primary schools this morning throughout the country.
Contacted by Lusa by telephone, the leader of the National Union of Education Professionals (SINAPE), Francisco Pinto said, at around 08:45, that he was already aware of “many schools” affected
“We think that what we expected will materialise: a turnout of 70% of non-teaching staff”, he said.
According to the union, the strike is aimed at non-teaching staff, such as operational assistants, technical assistants and specialised and senior technicians.
According to a statement from Sinape, these non-teaching staff are demanding their own career paths, given the specific nature of their duties.
Sinape also highlights that these workers “are in a state of ongoing job insecurity, with no career path, no progression and no recognition of their roles in public administration”.
