Another 1-kilometer section of the bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor has been put into operation on Shahrisabz Street in Tashkent, extending the continuous corridor along Shota Rustaveli and Shahrisabz streets to nearly 8 kilometers, the Tashkent City Department of Digital Development and Transport reported.
The new section runs from the intersection of Shahrisabz Street and Amir Temur Avenue to the intersection with Makhtumkuli Street, covering the area between Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and City Maternity Complex No. 6.
The dedicated bus lanes, located in the center of the road, are designed to reduce delays caused by general traffic congestion, improve service regularity and help passengers better predict their arrival times.
Work on expanding the BRT system is ongoing. The longer-term plan is to gradually establish a unified transport corridor connecting Tashkent’s Sergeli and Yunusabad districts. Further details on subsequent project stages, construction schedules and potential traffic management changes will be announced later.
In early September, a 1.2-kilometer section of Shahrisabz Street between the intersection of Shahrisabz, Mirabad and Shota Rustaveli streets and Amir Temur Avenue was opened. Six new bus stops were established as part of that project.
