OTTAWA — The San Jose Sharks didn’t make life easy for Yaroslav Askarov.
Yaroslav Askarov made 39 saves, highlighted by a Save of the Year candidate on Drake Batherson. To the Sharks’ credit, they did pour on the offense on the Ottawa Senators, winning 6-2. Nolan Allan, Tyler Toffoli, Collin Graf, Jacob Trouba, Zack Ostapchuk, and Ivar Stenberg scored.
But all the talk post-game was about Askarov’s marvelous performance…and Igor Chernyshov’s serious injury.
Yaroslav Askarov spoke on the save, Collin Graf shared his plans in Boston, Ty Dellandrea gave a first-hand account of Askarov’s flying save, and Ryan Warsofsky shared bad Chernyshov injury news.
A deeper game story with micro-stats from Stathletes and game action clips, Sharks Insight, will be published soon.

Graf, on playing center and wing tonight, and if he’s playing defense next:
No, probably no defense. (laughs) I think PK will be as far defensive as I go. Just trying my versatility, and I think it was sort of on full display tonight.
Graf, on his pass for Jacob Trouba’s goal:
I didn’t hear him. He might have been calling for it, but I saw him at the last second.
Collin Graf says he’s going to see brother Justin’s first college game for Harvard tomorrow

Ty Dellandrea
Dellandrea, on Askarov’s “Superman” save:
Unbelievable, unbelievable. Unfortunately, I had an up-close view [on the PK], and it was it was unbelievable. I couldn’t believe it.
Shock, really. Looked like an open net, full cage. It was highlight reel. Unbelievable.
Ryan Warsofsky
Warsofsky, on what went right for the San Jose Sharks tonight:
I thought the goaltender was great.
Warsofsky, on the PK breakdown that led to Askarov’s flying glove save:
A lot goes into that structure and our penalty kill. We got to hold that seam. We’ve talked about that a lot.
Warsofsky, on Igor Chernyshov’s upper-body injury:
I think he’s going to be out a little bit. So we’ll have a better update tomorrow.
Warsofsky says #SJSharks will have a better idea about Chernyshov’s upper-body injury tomorrow, wouldn’t say if anything was broken

Warsofsky, on Chernyshov’s recent play:
I thought that line was really good in the first period, too. So it’s gonna hurt. But another opportunity for someone else.
Warsofsky, on Senators’ 17-6 third period shots edge and the Mason Marchment turnover that led to Jordan Spence’s goal:
It’s being smart-aggressive. It’s understanding where you are in your shift. If you’re tired, you know where the momentum is. That’s what it’s about.
We may think that’s an aggressive play. To be honest, I think we should play that below the goal line and make them come 200 feet.
Doesn’t mean we can’t make plays. Doesn’t mean we can’t stay aggressive, but we got to smarten up in some areas when we have the lead.
