Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman has rejected reports about his alleged interest in a governorship, saying that if he makes a demand, it would be for the office of prime minister, not governor, ARY News reported.
In a statement on October 20, Fazal ur Rehman described the reports about the governorship as completely false and an insult to him.
He also rejected the results of the 2024 general elections and demanded fresh, immediate and transparent elections in the country.
The JUI-F chief said his party had no links with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) or any other organisation. He said his party had made sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, but its leaders, office-bearers, religious scholars and seminaries were also facing security threats.
Fazal ur Rehman said his own life and the seminaries associated with him were no longer safe.
Commenting on constitutional amendments, he said his party had withdrawn amendments under the 26th Constitutional Amendment that, in his view, would have weakened the system.
He alleged that the same amendments were later passed under the 27th Constitutional Amendment by purchasing the support of lawmakers.
The JUI-F chief also criticised the country’s economic situation, saying the economy remained weak and government measures were having no impact on the public.
Referring to talks and the issue of military operations, Fazal ur Rehman questioned the grounds for negotiations after killings had already taken place. He also asked where the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had obstructed the operation.
His remarks came as he rejected the 2024 election results and reiterated his demand for fresh elections, while raising concerns over security threats, constitutional changes and the state of the economy.
