House-made pasta in a cosy corner cottage.
There are few greater delights than a rustic plate of pasta, unless it’s a sub-$20 glass of wine to go with it. At this charming hideaway, casarecce arrives tossed with a coarse pistachio pesto, tiny nuggets of parmesan scattered throughout. Fried calamari is sharpened with ’nduja, and the tiramisu has none of the jazz-hands fanfare of tableside service; here it’s squidged into a plain bowl, creamy and fuss-free, just as Nonna would serve it.
In winter there’s a crackling fire, and if you round up a gang they’ll give you the run of the whitewashed private dining room, overflowing with baskets of plants and vintage photos of Albury from yesteryear.
There’s Cat Stevens on the stereo, and the Robert Frost poem scrawled on the blackboard urges you to take the road less travelled. Luckily, that road has brought you here.
Good to know: If you’re staying at the boutique Ken’s Kip guesthouse out the back, they can even deliver dinner right to your door.
