ULSAN — Ulsan plans a sweeping expansion of its transportation network and tourist information hubs to improve mobility and access for travelers with disabilities, older adults and other visitors who face barriers to tourism.
The city is investing a total of 8 billion won ($5.7 million) in the project. It already operates three wheelchair-accessible vehicles and will add a low-floor double-decker city tour bus and a shuttle bus serving the petroglyph sites by the end of the year.
In December, the city will complete "open tourist information centers" at Taehwagang Station and KTX Ulsan Station, offering wheelchair rentals and dispatch of barrier-free tour vans.
The city recently installed portable ramps and accessibility facilities at its Industrial Festival and Whale Festival. It has also published accessibility information for 285 privately run facilities rated as high quality on the Ulsan tourism website.
Ulsan said it will continue upgrading infrastructure to build an inclusive tourism city that anyone can visit comfortably.
