A POLICE corporal was seriously injured after being attacked with a machete by a suspected drug offender during an anti-narcotics raid in Kampung Lalang Pepuyu in Tanah Meran, Kelantan on Saturday.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the 37-year-old officer sustained a fracture to his left hand in the incident at about 1.35pm and was receiving treatment at Tanah Merah Hospital.
He said the incident occurred when officers from the Kelantan contingent police headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), assisted by personnel from Bukit Bunga and Lalang Pepuyu police stations, raided a house in the village.
“The local male suspect, believed to be in his 30s, attempted to flee while carrying a machete.
“Officers pursued him, but he became aggressive and swung the machete at them, injuring one officer before he was arrested,” he said.
Police seized a machete measuring about 35cm, suspected yaba pills weighing approximately 0.1g and a bottle of liquid believed to be kratom water.
Checks showed that the suspect had six previous drug-related offences, Mohd Yusoff said.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 324 for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
The suspect is also being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
Mohd Yusoff said the suspect would be brought to court to obtain a remand order to facilitate further investigations.
The arrest was made during Ops Tapis Bersepadu Sempadan, a joint operation conducted by the Kelantan NCID and district narcotics investigation units in Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Tanah Merah and Jeli.
He said the operation aimed to curb drug smuggling and distribution along the Malaysia-Thailand border. - October 18, 2026
