During Bayern Munich’s spectacular 6-1 thrashing of RB Leipzig at the weekend, Vincent Kompany was forced to remain on the bench due to hip problems and a viral infection, while assistant coach Aaron Danks issued instructions from the touchline.
Kompany also missed the post-match press conference, with board member for sport Max Eberl appearing in his place.
While Eberl expressed optimism that the Belgian coach would be ready to lead the team from the dugout against Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday, it remains unclear whether he will be able to do so.
According to Bild, Kompany underwent another thorough examination by the medical team on Monday, with the club taking the viral infection particularly seriously.
The coach returned to Bayern’s Säbener Straße training ground on Sunday to prepare for the clash with Arsenal.
However, Kompany was absent from the pitch during a closed training session on Monday lunchtime, with his duties shared between Danks and the other assistant coaches, René Maric, Floribert N’Galula and Daniel Fradley.
Kompany hopes to lead the final training session on Tuesday afternoon. If he is able to do so without problems, he should also be fit to take charge of the team on Wednesday night.
