Long gowns in luscious silks or velvets, dramatic fur stoles, and of course, pristine pairs of long opera gloves: The dress code for a guest at the opera has traditionally included many guidelines. But last night, at the Metropolitan Opera’s opening gala for Lincoln in the Bardo, Dua Lipa put her own spin on the age-old style.

Embracing the glitz and the glamour of the Gilded Age women who first graced the opera boxes back in the late 19th century, but giving the formal-wear a contemporary It girl twist, the singer attended the performance in a striking black gown from Maximilian Davis’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection for Ferragamo.
From a bandeau, held up by delicate spaghetti straps, sheer hand-embroidered chiffon floated down the body, in a medley of gold thread, gold droplets, crystals, and ocean-blue sequins. The result was a waterfall of glistening embellishments that trailed behind its wearer as she walked the red carpet. A thigh-high slit in the skirt gave the dress a cheeky finish, but it was its detached sleeves that truly stole the show.
