Meghan Markle is gearing up for a return to acting—and initially, she was linked to The Gentlemen season 3. In August, multiple outlets reported that she was being considered for a role in the Guy Ritchie-directed Netflix series The Gentlemen, which is filmed in London and in countryside locations across England.
Netflix officially ordered another season of the crime drama in late August. In October, People and The Telegraph reported that Meghan was no longer under consideration for a role. Here’s everything we know about season 3 of The Gentlemen.

Has The Gentlemen been renewed for season 3?
Yes. On August 24, Variety confirmed that The Gentlemen will return for an eight-episode third season. The new installment is currently in pre-production and is expected to begin filming soon, though scripts have not yet been finalized.
Guy Ritchie will return to direct and will once again co-write the series with Matthew Read. In a statement to Variety, Ritchie said, “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”
What will The Gentlemen season 3 be about?
There is no official logline for season 3 because it has not received a renewal yet, but the series as a whole follows aristocrat Eddie Horniman after he inherits his late father’s countryside estate—only for him to discover that it actually doubles as an underground cannabis ring with connections to England’s criminal empire.
Expect the third season to continue where season 2 leaves off. The season 2 logline reads: “It’s been one year since Eddie and Susie (Kaya Scodelario) joined forces to work together in Bobby’s criminal empire overseas. As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound. Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well…”
Who is in the cast?
No season 3 casting has been announced yet. Although Theo James and Kaya Scodelario headline the series, Variety reported on August 24 that casting for the newly ordered season has not been finalized.
Initially, reports surfaced that Meghan was under consideration for a role.
According to Deadline, Meghan “has had preliminary conversations to join Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen for season 3,” which comes after reports of her being “offered a role in an upcoming project based in the U.K.”
Variety reported following the season 3 renewal that no new casting has been decided, despite speculation surrounding Meghan.
When Deadline first reported on the talks on August 21, the outlet said that “the talks are in very early stages and they are also hypothetical at this point because The Gentlemen, starring Theo James, has not been renewed for a third season yet.” The report also revealed that “no role has been identified” for Meghan either. Following the news of her involvement, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that she “met Ritchie through mutual acquaintances.”
On August 26, Netflix’s scripted chief in the U.K., Manda Levin, was asked about the rumors at the Edinburgh TV Festival. Levin had a suggestive response, replying, “All bets are off.”
James weighed in on the rumors in an interview with Town & Country published September 2, telling the outlet that there wasn’t any truth to the rumors of Meghan joining the show.
“No, I think that was mainly a lot of hot air,” he said. “At the moment, we’re just trying to get as many eyes on season two, and then season three will happen soon. But in terms of story, we have the overarching ambition of where we’re going to go. We’re going to expand the world, go to different countries. But in terms of the minutiae, I mean, it’s still very much up in the air.”
Ultimately, Meghan didn’t join the series. On October 18, People reported that Meghan was no longer in talks to join the season 3 cast.
But the story doesn't end there. A friend of Meghan's told The Telegraph that some people in her circle believed the reports about her potential casting had been leaked to drum up publicity for season 2. A source close to the production denied that the show needed such a boost, telling The Times, “This is not a show in need of stunt casting.”
When will The Gentlemen season 3 be released?
There is no confirmed release date for season 3 of The Gentlemen. Season 2 will arrive on September 3, two and a half years after season 1 premiered in March 2024.
