Dhahran – Saudi Aramco's main oil facility in Dhahran suffered significant damage in an attack on Tuesday, resulting in a fire that spread across several floors, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday.
Two of the sources said operations continued normally despite the damage, with employees working from home, while a fourth source indicated that some tasks had been transferred to overseas offices.
The Saudi Ministry of Energy said in a statement that the attack, which occurred Tuesday evening amid escalating tensions between the kingdom and the Iranian-backed Houthi group in Yemen, caused a small fire.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Houthi group claimed responsibility for attacks in Saudi Arabia, targeting Aramco facilities in Dhahran, King Khalid International Airport, and an Aramco refinery in Riyadh.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said that operations targeting airports and oil facilities in Saudi Arabia would continue in the coming days.
Saree added that the missiles and drones "hit their targets accurately, causing damage to the targeted sites and setting fires in them."
