The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, from the Adetokunbo Ademola/Civic Centre junction to Samuel Manuwa/BJ, with work scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The government has released alternative routes for motorists to minimise traffic disruption during the rehabilitation, including a contra-flow arrangement on the Lagos-bound lane from Samuel Manuwa to Adetokunbo Ademola/Civic Centre while work is carried out on the opposite lane.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a traffic advisory on Thursday, October 15.
The statement partly reads: “The Lagos State Government has released a traffic advisory ahead of the rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, covering the section from Adetokunbo Ademola/Civic Centre to Samuel Manuwa/BJ. The 35-day rehabilitation process will commence on Monday, October 19, 2026.”

Under the diversion plan, motorists travelling from Bonny Camp and Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki are advised to use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street and Akinbo Savage Street, then proceed through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street to School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.
Motorists from Falomo heading towards Akin Adesola are advised to pass through IMB and connect to the Coastal Road entrance via Adetokunbo Ademola, proceed to Eko Hotel Roundabout, then use Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards Black Diamond School Corner.
Those travelling from Bonny Camp are advised to use Ahmadu Bello Way to connect to Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street, Adetokunbo Ademola, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards Black Diamond School Corner.
For motorists travelling from Eko Hotel through Adetokunbo Ademola Road towards Civic Centre, the government said they would be diverted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner near Black Diamond towards Sandfield.
Vehicles exiting through the 1004 exit gate, as well as other road users along the route, will be directed to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street to School Corner and Sandfield.
Motorists travelling from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi are advised to use Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect to Akin Adesola Street and proceed towards the ramp bridge.
Osiyemi said the government would deploy officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to manage vehicle movement and reduce congestion as preliminary works on the project commence at VGC.
The commissioner said the measures were intended to minimise disruption and inconvenience to road users during the rehabilitation.
“Motorists are implored to plan their movement ahead, obey traffic officials, and cooperate with the interventions put in place to ease traffic,” the statement said.
The government urged motorists to familiarise themselves with the alternative routes and allow for additional travel time while the rehabilitation is underway.
