- When will Tesla reveal the new second-gen Roadster? Tonight at 8:55 p.m. ET.
- Where can I watch it? The event will be livestreamed on Tesla’s X account.
- Why should I care? Tesla first revealed a Roadster 2.0 in 2017, so it’ll be very interesting to see what has changed after nearly a decade.
If you are reading this, you’re probably interested in seeing Tesla finally reveal the long-awaited follow-up to its first production car, the Roadster. It’s been a long time coming—nine years, in fact—since Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled what everyone thought would be the second-generation Roadster, but that ambitious concept never reached production. But tonight, Tesla is getting a second bite at the apple, and the world is once again invited to watch it all unfold via livestream at 8:55 p.m. ET.
Tonight’s reveal event will be held at a SpaceX testing facility in Texas, and it will be streamed live on Tesla’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account. Last year, Musk said the Roadster 2.0 would be revealed on April Fool’s Day 2026, but that didn’t come to fruition, and eventually October 1 was chosen as the official reveal date. However, a severe weather forecast caused that plan to be pushed back to today, October 15.

What’s notable is that Tesla obviously needs the Roadster to be revealed outdoors, which, along with the event’s location, fuels rumors that there will be a flight demonstration. Previously, Musk suggested that the next-gen Roadster could offer rocket thrusters with a “SpaceX package.” At the time, that sounded more like a way to achieve the claim that Tesla’s new electric sports car can hit 60 mph in less than a second. Along with a full-width taillight and what appears to be some sort of rear spoiler, the Roadster’s teaser photo features four white plumes above the car’s perceived roof that look a lot like a jet engine’s contrails.
Whether or not the new Tesla Roadster will have rocket thrusters and/or take flight remains to be seen. But either way, you can be part of the action by tuning in tonight at 8:55 p.m. if you’re in the eastern timezone, 7:55 p.m. if you’re on Central Time, and between 6:55 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. if you’re on Mountain or Pacific Time, respectively.
We’ll obviously also be watching the reveal event tonight and updating this story in real time with everything we learn about the Roadster 2.0. So, if you’re too busy to watch the livestream or simply prefer to read about it from us, we got you covered.

His aspiration growing up was to become a millionaire with a Jay Leno–like car collection. Apparently, getting rich is harder than social-media influencers make it seem, so he avoided financial success entirely to become an automotive journalist and drive new cars for a living. After earning a journalism degree at Central Michigan University and working at a daily newspaper, the years of basically burning money on failed project cars and lemon-flavored jalopies finally paid off when Car and Driver hired him. His garage currently includes a 2010 Acura RDX, a manual '97 Chevy Camaro Z/28, and a '90 Honda CRX Si.
