Actor and activist Prakash Raj has said that the people of India will bring down the regime in Delhi “by voting only”.
Addressing a protest gathering seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, symbolically named ‘Jantar Mantar’, at the Kozhikode beach on Saturday (October 17, 2026), he said that the regime change in the country would not be “like Bangladesh, Nepal, or Sri Lanka”. The event was organised by the Muslim Youth League (MYL).
Mr. Prakash Raj said that some people wanted to divert attention from the ongoing agitation when they found fault with lawyer Prashant Bhushan’s statement that the aim of the protest was a “regime change”.
“I am going to tell them from this stage. Yes, this is a fight and a protest to change the regime. We will change the regime, but not like Bangladesh, not like Nepal, not like Sri Lanka, because we are armed with Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s Constitution. We are armed with the protest of Mahatma Gandhi... We will bring you down by voting only. Just give us back our vote, we will start from Uttar Pradesh, State by State,” he said.
Mr. Prakash Raj said that the youth of the country has risen in protest against the government. He added that they were not afraid because when the BJP came to power, they were 12, 13, or 14 years old. “...They did not choose you. You cannot do anything with them because they are not afraid. The youth of this country has removed the fear of this country,” Mr. Prakash Raj added. The actor said that there was ample evidence now to prove that the voting rights of Dalits, Adivasis, Muslims and other religious minorities, and women were being taken away. He urged people to stand with the youth in the protest.
Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, M.P. Abdussamad Samadani, MP, MYL State president Panakkad Syed Munavvar Ali Shihab Thangal, and MLAs P.K. Firos, Fathima Thahiliya and V.K. Fyzal Babu, among others, were present.
