A significant offseason awaits the Indiana Fever.
After coming up short in the 2026 playoffs, the Fever will be expected to take the next step in 2027 and reach the WNBA Finals in Caitlin Clark's fourth WNBA season.
The Fever is expected to be aggressive on the trade market and in free agency. Star guard Kelsey Mitchell will hit the market as her contract expires, and Mitchell has made it clear that the treatment she has received as an Indiana player has worn on her over the past three years.

A new report in The Athletic on Friday lays bare the difficulties that the Fever franchise is facing this offseason -- not necessarily from a salary cap perspective, but from a reputational one, which is undoubtedly more concerning as Indiana tries to add impact talent around Clark and Aliyah Boston.
The report states that, according to one agent, opposing players "regularly disable" their social media accounts before and after playing the Fever, due to the increase in toxic messages they claim to receive.
Notes on the Fever and their reputation within the WNBA, per @anniecostabile, @_Brian_Hamilton: - An agent said clients regularly disable social media accounts before and after games against Indiana due to increase in toxic messages they say they received - A different agent said clients have reported being called the N-word at Fever games "multiple times"; Fever say they have received no complaints about racial slurs from fans at home games - Amber Cox plans to reach out to WNBA, WNBPA after Finals to tackle issue of player-fan dynamics

Another agent who spoke to The Athletic claimed that their clients reported being called racial slurs, like the n-word, though the Fever deny receiving complaints to that effect during home games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
However, the concerns are prevalent enough to where Fever general manager Amber Cox -- who fervently and passionately defended the honor or Indiana fans earlier this month -- reportedly plans to meet with the league and the players' union to "tackle the issue of player-fan dynamics."
That lends the issue quite a bit of credence, and makes it clear that the Fever of Clark and Sophie Cunningham faces an image issue that needs to be overcome.
