Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City said on the 13th that 105 of its villages were selected in the central government's second round of applications for the solar income village program, the most of any region among 436 villages chosen nationwide. Across the first and second rounds, 125 villages in the city have been selected.
Under the program, residents take a direct stake in renewable energy generation projects and share in the revenue. The proceeds are used to raise residents' incomes, improve welfare and fund community projects.
Jeonnam-Gwangju said it plans to identify additional applicant villages for the third round, which runs through the 30th, and to support them with project planning and consulting.
