IPOH: Independent preacher Ustaz Wadi Annuar was discharged from hospital after being involved in a three-vehicle accident along the East-West Highway near Gerik early today.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said Wadi was travelling in a Toyota Vellfire when the crash occurred at Km45 of the Gerik-Jeli stretch at 1.30am.
He said eight people were involved in the accident, which also involved a Perodua Myvi and a Perodua Bezza.
"Four people were injured, while four others escaped unhurt. No fatalities were reported," he said in a statement.
Initial investigations revealed that the Myvi, travelling from Jeli towards Gerik, lost control while negotiating a bend on a wet road following rain.
The car entered the opposite lane and sideswiped the oncoming Bezza before crashing into the Vellfire, which was travelling behind it.
Two passengers in the Myvi sustained injuries, with one suffering a fractured left arm and the other bleeding from the head. Two passengers in the Vellfire suffered lip injuries and complained of chest pain.
All injured victims were taken to Gerik Hospital for treatment, with two later referred to Taiping Hospital.
Alwi said the accident site was a dark, winding stretch of road that was wet from rain. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving, which carries a fine of up to RM10,000 and maximum 12-month imprisonment.
Police advised motorists to exercise caution when driving on winding roads during rainy conditions, reduce speed, and ensure their vehicles remain under control.
