By Zoila Palma: San Ignacio Resort Hotel has been named Belize’s Leading Hotel 2026 at the World Travel Awards, securing the title for the fifth consecutive year as the establishment celebrates its 50th anniversary. The hotel announced the achievement in a statement, noting that it previously won the category in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The award was presented as part of the World Travel Awards’ recognition of excellence in the global tourism and hospitality industry.
This year’s winners for the Caribbean and the Americas were celebrated at a gala held at the Princess Grand Jamaica during World Travel Week Jamaica. The hotel’s latest win coincides with its golden anniversary, marking 50 years since founder Escandar Bedran opened its first seven rooms in 1976.
Reflecting on the milestone, the hotel described the recognition as more than an award, stating, “It felt like a tribute to every guest, every team member, and every chapter of the story that got us here.” The establishment also credited its staff and returning guests for helping it maintain its reputation, emphasizing that “Five in a row is a standard.” The hotel said consistency in service, dining, tours, and guest experiences remains central to its continued success.
The resort’s latest achievement follows another major event hosted at the property, the 2026 Wildlife Ambassador Conference and Wildlife Hero Awards.
The hotel highlighted its commitment to conservation through its Green Iguana Conservation Project, Medicinal Jungle Trail, bird-watching activities, and Creatures of the Night Walk. Describing its identity, the resort stated, “Celebrating wildlife heroes one week and a national hospitality title the next feels exactly right for who we are: the only jungle in town.”
San Ignacio Resort Hotel invites visitors to experience its accommodations, dining at the award-winning Running W Restaurant, and access to Maya archaeological sites and caves throughout the Cayo District.
