Tyrese Maxey scored 28 points, and Philadelphia topped the Knicks 106-100 on Tuesday night, holding the champs to 37.2% shooting. Joel Embiid hit a big 3-pointer with 3:31 remaining after New York cut its deficit to one and finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Brown went for 19 points in his Sixers debut while James logged 14 points and seven assists to go with some tough defense on Karl-Anthony Towns down the stretch.
The Cavaliers reached the Eastern Conference Finals, losing in four straight to the Knicks, for its deepest playoff run of the post-LeBron era in Cleveland and kept its core together by extending Donovan Mitchell for four years and re-signing James Harden for three to team with bigs Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. The Cavs also added 3-and-D wing Peyton Watson in a sign-and-trade from the Denver Nuggets to complete its starting unit.
The 76ers also exited the playoffs at the hands of New York last season, taking a second-round sweep after erasing a 3-1 deficit to upset the Boston Celtics in the first round.
